Last night, the veggie twitter-verse was all aflutter about Vegetarian Shoes, the Brighton-based shoe shop which pumps fabulous footwear and accessories out of England, into stores across the world. Vegan tweeters like @govegandotnet (vegan cookbook extraordinaire Sarah Kramer) and @thestreetsiknow (vegan fashion blogger) sang the praises of the shoe brand, and of course shared their charming new promo video:
At first glance, I was skeptical about the shoe brand. I’ve never looked deeply into eco-shoes and fashion, however I’ve always carried the notion that cruelty-free clothing amounted to Birkenstocks and hemp ponchos, both of which I am wholeheartedly against.
I’m going to be completely honest here: given the choice between a cute leather bootie from Steve Madden and a fugly cruelty-free cork and plastic clodhopper, I’m going to apologize to the cow and go with the cute boot. And yes, there’s an inherent cognitive dissonance stemming from my aesthetic which I’ve come to accept. After visiting the Vegetarian Shoes website, however, I found multiple pairs of incredibly cute, innately wearable shoes, boots, heels, sneakers and sandals which could, in theory, eliminate my “I don’t eat animals but I love leather shoes” dilemma.
They’ve got sexy AND sensible work-wear shoes…
Fun and flirty daytime shoes
Comfy sneaks

Park date sandals
Plus awesome steel-toe boots!
And yes, they do carry Birkenstocks, but I’m not going to include an image here, because I don’t believe in them.
Go check out their site!
